Description

This extended abstract gives an overview of the H2020 SANSA project, which proposes the seamless integration of the satellite into novel self-organizing terrestrial backhaul networks for improving the throughput and latency of conventional systems. A novel hybrid network management scheme, combining topology reconfiguration with backpressure routing and load balancing, and dynamic traffic classification is proposed. Simulations using ns-3 showed throughputs gains of up to 68% and latency reductions of up to 50%. In addition, the integration of the satellite and the wireless backhaul represents a cost-affordable solution for meeting the 5G coverage requirements.
