Festivals are celebrated once in a year or on certain days where people get together and celebrate the day with joy. In Tamil, it can be called ‘Thiruvila’, ‘Urvalam’, or ‘Valam’. Festivals become individual worship when people start living individually and as collective rites when worshiping with others, and as festivals when worshiping with groups, strengthening relationships in the society. Temple festivals are the foremost of the festivals in any society and it is the binding factor of the people in the Tamil Society. Thus, this article highlights the importance of Pudukottai Tiruvapur Muthumariamman Temple and the worship of the people. Mostly, events that take place in a society are said to be loaded with divinity. The development of the festival may have been in line with the development of the community that had grown into many ethnic groups. The Muthumariamman Temple is known for it grace and power in the area of Pudukottai. This article explains the human beliefs in the development of civilization, the human activities in the festivals that came through faith and the history of Tiruvapur Mariamman in Pudukkottai District.
