ESTIMULAÇÃO SENSÓRIO-PERCEPTIVA E PRESERVAÇÃO AMBIENTAL: PROJETO ELETRÔNICO IPÊ

Description

The project was conceived in the context of the Media Lab, Interactive Media Laboratory based on the themes of interdisciplinary work and the execution of electronic works of art. Thus, it will be possible to present the electronic and environmental knowledge about Ipê. A tree whose name has a Brazilian origin, derived from Tupi, meaning “hard bark tree”. Differing from others, the appearance of its flowering depends on the species, however, for a short time remain flowering, these in turn fall from the branches, thus creating a contrasting colored mass. The most famous species is the yellow Ipe, with its flower declared as a national symbol in the 1960’s. Not to count other colors such as purple, pink, white and red. For the execution of the project, initially the choice was made of the characteristic colors of Ipê, whose main ones are represented periodically by LEDs4. The work will have a total of 10 branches, where each one will count 100 LEDs. Such branches will be coupled to the structure for better locomotion of the disassembled structure. The color control will be done through the Arduino³, manipulating the energy intensity, with that, giving the right hue for the representative colors. The intention of this project is to provoke a knowledge about the Ipê by the outer society in an artistic way, reconciling art and technology in the same object of study. Thus the project could be presented in schools or public environments of the municipalities, where the exhibition would be set up, promoting not only the cultural interaction of the population with works of art but also providing the contact with the technological culture. In turn, the project justifies its execution, both for the technology that will be developed and for the experience of the students involved, and which will be one of the efforts to raise the awareness of the global population on the issue of environmental preservation.
