Description
AtlantGIS is a fictional GIS dataset simulating an island in the Atlantic for educational purposes in archaeology and related fields. The dataset provides vector data, raster data, tables, QGIS project files, templates, linked data resources, and documentation for teaching, exercises, workshops, and self-study materials.
The dataset is designed as an artificial but coherent spatial data environment. It refers creatively to the story of Atlantis as told by Plato, while avoiding any claim of geographical identification. Its purpose is to support the teaching of GIS concepts, spatial data handling, and geodata-based reasoning in the humanities and cultural heritage disciplines.
Version 1.0.0 is the first stable release of the AtlantGIS dataset. It introduces a revised repository structure and standardizes all file names, attribute names, and attribute values in English. This improves consistency across the dataset and makes it easier to use in multilingual teaching contexts, documentation, and software workflows.
Starting with version 1.0.0, the primary repository of AtlantGIS is hosted on Codeberg.
