Uncertainty analysis of cylinder circumference-to-diameter ratio cut by precision CNC machine and circle cutter

Authors/Creators

  • 1. RFive

Description

Uncertainty analysis was performed on precision measurements of cylinders circumference-to-diameter ratios. All measurements yielded circumference-to-diameter=3.144. The measurements were consistent with nine other known measurements. The circumference-to-diameter ratio differed from the assumed theoretical value (in the third digit after the decimal point) of 3.141, for which the author could find no supporting physical measurements (current or historic). The circumference-to-diameter ratio is critical for precision computations of, for example, orbits of Near Earth Objects (NEO). It is also used in most electrical engineering and many engineering computations.

Notes

The author was unable to find any physical measurements (modern or historic) that supported a, theoretical only, cylinder circumference-to-diameter ratio of 3.141.
