Description

Gaia + PeTar projects combines N-body simulations with Gaia eDR3 data to robustly identify tidal tails of open star clusters in the Milky Way disc. As a first results, Jerabkova et al. (A&A, 2021) presents a detection of the full extent (1kpc!) of tidal tail of the Hyades star cluster and the first even detection of substructures in the tail of open star cluster putting constraints on the MW potential. Follow up studies are coming up, see Long & Jerabkova (A&A, 2021). Tidal Tails tell us the tale of cluster formation and evolution
and of the Milky Way potential that has impacted the stars and our Gaia + PeTar project is taking full advantage of that.
