Description
"The Exciting News of Ostend" virtual exhibition explores the siege of Ostend (1601-1604), one of the great sieges of early modern times, through letters, handwritten newsletters, printed books, maps and paintings.
It reconstructs both the impact the siege had on the lives of the soldiers and the people involved, and its media impact. In particular, the exhibition focuses on the news that reached the Medici court in Florence and how the siege was narrated in handwritten newsletters.
The exhibition is built with the open-source web publishing platform Omeka Classic and the geo-temporal exhibit-builder Neatline.
