Description

Baptodoris cinnabarina Bergh, 1884, a poorly known species endemic to the Mediterranean Sea, is redescribed based on some specimens collected from the Spanish Mediterranean continental shelf. A detailed study of the reproductive system clearly shows differentiated penial and atrial spines. The radula of this species is studied for the first time using scanning electron microscopy, which revealed the presence of small denticles on the external side of the teeth, and showed that the two outermost teeth of each row are pectinated. The generic placement of some species previously included in the genus Baptodoris is discussed. We conclude that only Baptodoris mimetica Gosliner, 1991 can be unquestionably included in this genus
