Description

Spectroscopy Data: The spectroscopy data was collected by recording the SFG intensity as a function of infrared wavenumber for different interfaces, where the SFG intensity at each wavenumber was normalized by the IR power at the same wavenumber. The dataset collected was plotted as it is and fitted using a Lorentzian equation (fit lines shown in the Figures in the manuscript).

Adhesion Data: Adhesion data was collected using a bi-axial friction cell, where the shear adhesion force was recorded as a function of time once the gecko setae start sliding on the substrate. The maximum recorded shear force was normalized by the lamellar area (calculated by analyzing pictures using ImageJ) to account for variation in size of lamella. Seven independent measurements were performed for both pristine and delipidized lamellae, which were then averaged to report the mean and standard error values listed in the paper.

Notes

Both spectroscopy and adhesion data can be used as it to recreate the figures shown in the manuscript.
