Datasets on evolution of complex methods and the perception of developers

  • 1. Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais

Description

The first dataset, the evolution of complex methods, contains data collected from GitHub on methods considered complex by Mccabe's Cyclomatic Complexity metric. The data were obtained from popular GitHub projects to identify behaviors in the evolution of methods over time.

The second dataset has answers obtained through a survey of contributors to popular GitHub repositories, which aimed to identify the developers' perception of methods considered complex. The questions asked were:

    1) Do you think this complex method is harmful for maintenance?

    2) Was this change somehow harder to implement since it happened inside a complex method? Why?

    3) Why do you think developers have never refactored such a complex method before?

Please, provide any other comments or thoughts regarding the maintenance of complex methods.
