Simulation data about the maintenance of sex in the face of asexual reproduction: a multifactorial synergic effect

Description

The maintenance and fixation of sexual reproduction is considered a puzzle because of the associated two-fold cost. Sex is supposed to (1) better maintain genetic variation, providing a selective advantage in changing environments; (2) better manage negative frequency-dependent selection (the “Red Queen” hypothesis); and (3) the cost of sex can diminish to less than the standard two-fold due to the existence of genetic and ecological factors. We developed simulations addressing the interacting effect of all those three mechanisms simultaneously on the proportion of populations that fixed sexuality. This dataset contains the outputs.
