Astrophysical Data Science in Roman Times
Description
Roman offers such great survey capabilities, from wide to deep to ultradeep, that it might be easier to ask “What science can’t it do?” High-z emission-line galaxy samples will increase by orders of magnitude! Choosing Roman Deep Fields ASAP will allow observing proposals for expensive-but-needed complementary data. Astrophysical data science is advancing rapidly; hard to extrapolate, but should at least use current state-of-the-art (e.g., non-parametric star formation histories) in planning community surveys with Roman. The photo-z methods and clustering analyses used for cosmology today will be galaxy evolution techniques in the Roman era.
