Description
Hypericum prolificum Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 12, 2: 510; Mantissa Plantarum: 106. 1767.
"Habitat in America septentrionali." RCN: 5752.
Lectotype (Svenson in Rhodora 42: 9. 1940): Herb. Linn. No. 943.20 (LINN).
Current name: Hypericum prolificum L. (Clusiaceae).
Note: Fernald & Schubert (in Rhodora 50: 167-168. 1948) agreed that 943.20 (LINN) was the type (illustrated in Plate 1101, f. 1-3), but questioned its identity. However, later authors (e.g. Svenson in Rhodora 54: 205. 1952; Robson in Bull. Nat. Hist. Mus. London, Bot. 26: 96. 1996) confirm that it belongs to H. prolificum of usage.
