Cobrar por publicar en revistas académicas, una amenaza al ecosistema latinoamericano no comercial

Saray Córdoba

The characteristics of the 123 Latin American journals found in DOAJ that charge to publish (APC) are shown in this study. These characteristics are country of origin, languages of publication, group of subjects covered, the amount charged in United States dollars, the publishing entity, the nature of the said entity, and some of the information systems in which they are included. show that these journals are relatively few and that they are presented in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and Venezuela, published in two or three languages, and are grouped into the disciplines of medical sciences, natural and exact sciences, agricultural sciences, engineering and some in social sciences. More than half charge very low prices and most belong to public universities and scientific societies. Finally, it is recommended that universities develop collaborative models for journals and warns that these APC outbreaks fail to spread across the subcontinent.
