  • Both, C. faridpaki and C. keyvani were described based on morphological characteristics, e.g. body proportions, scale shape and colour patterns (Mousavi-Sabet et al. 2011, 2012). When molecular (mtDNA COI gene) data became available, we found Cobitis from the type localities of both species to be very closely related. Therefore, this study was conducted to present the molecular (mtDNA COI gene) and compares the morphological characters of C. faridpaki and C. keyvani, including individuals from their type localities to test, if both can be distinguished or not.
