He was the leader of his tribe and the most prestigious person in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance. In fact, poems were the ones who best reflected the spirit life, emotion, and thoughts in their poems the Arabs were fond of camel cubs as well as poetry. Because the poem was the Divan which was the memory and archive of Arabs with the starting of descension of Qur’an the lifestyles of Arabs have changed considerably naturally the changes affected the poems of the time. The effect of the Qur’an to the Arab literature in terms of structure, meaning and content are clear now Islamic age poets’ poems are affected by Qur’an’s telling language and verses. Although al-Akhtal who was the national poet of the Umayyad Government in the Umayyad period was a Christian, he emphasized Islam more than he did Christianity. He used Islamic words especially while praising Umayyad khalifas he mentioned Ka’bah, Zam-zam, hajis and “badna” sacrifices and swore on them. In addition to this, he wrote his poems while making citations from Qur’an verses and prophet anecdotes. This article we translated includes examples of Christian poet al-Akhtal’s poems which he wrote while making citations from Qur’an verses.
