The discourse on contemporary culture is inseparably saturated with issues related to space. The Department of Art Areas of the Intermedia Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, both of its studios: Archisphere and Audiosfera, as part of its artistic and scientific program, practices, follows and investigates the areas of visual  arts, architecture and sound art that are becoming ever more common in the spatial medium.

It is also the activities organized by both studios: Archisphere and Audiosfera in the form of intermedia events, visual ventures conducted by me in the city and open spaces, in the form of concerts conducted by prof. Marek Chołoniewski and GrupLab, which are examples of artistic practices with sound space, or experience of the virtual world of avatar by Sidey Myoo. Thanks to this, the studies, essays, articles written for this monograph were saturated not only with intellectual but also emotional reflection. The undertaking also assumes such tasks that at the interface between science and art and the new paradigm of mutual connections, it becomes possible to build a specific meta-language of artists' statements, also conducting activities in the field of science, and that with the scientists who are on the "other side" of the description of the work and activity artistic, find a platform for discussion.

My own experience shows me that this is an important discourse on science - art / art - science. The texts for this monograph covered a wide spectrum of fields related to space; they were created by humanists from the Jagiellonian University, artists and lecturers from the University of Arts in Poznań and Berlin, an artist from Budapest, from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, architects - designers of the Tadeusz Kantor Art Documentation Center in Krakow and the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, as well as lecturers from our Academy of Fine Arts Jan Matejko in Krakow. The meeting of ideas, realized in articles prepared for the monograph, broadened the horizon of issues related to intellectual reflection on the essence of understanding and acting in and with space. She also showed how important it is to consider it as a holistic phenomenon determined by our immersion relationship with space as opposed to, as it seems, erroneous consideration of space as a domain-selective creation. The voice of young artists and scientists turned out to be interesting, indicating the great importance of language and practices related to technology in expanding horizons of cognition of space. The discussion opened a wide spectrum of issues ranging from humanistic themes to purely artistic interests and astonishment of space, as a medium inseparably connected with our existence, so exploding in the artistic contextual action embodying space as a phenomenon of our existence.
