Chuneola major Vinogradov 1957

Description

Chuneola major Vinogradov, 1957

Southwest Atlantic: 1090270, 8/575, [53°33’S 24°19’W], 1867 m; 1235355, 8/571, [54.617°S 25.233°W], 1491 m. Eastern Indian: 1090273, 38/3, [61°42’30”S 149°58’18”E], 2950 m.

Remarks: A very rare species, previously known from just eight specimens (Zeidler 2009), recorded from the Pacific, Atlantic and the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean. It has previously been recorded from the Southwest Atlantic and Southeast Pacific Sectors, the latter record not quite reaching the Antarctic Zone (Zeidler & De Broyer 2009). This is the first record of this species from the Indian Ocean Sector, although at the extreme limit near the Southwest Pacific Sector.
