Description

The stone edict is located to the south of the Amṛteśvara temple in Amṛtapura. At the top of the edict is a scene depicting a linga in the center, surrounded by two men (one of whom is probably Amita) carrying offerings of flower garlands. On the left side a cow suckles her calf and  on the right side is crouched the ox Nandi, the vāhana of Śiva.
The date of the inscription (1197) is engraved on the edict by the sculptor Mallōja and the text was written by  Janna, an active poet at the court of the Hoysaḷa king Vīra Ballāḷa II between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
