Animated travelog: the genre origins and peculiarities

This article studies the particularities of travelogue as a contemporary genre of documentary animation. Defines its origins and shows up the reasons witch the development of this genre of modern animation are determines. The characteristics of the animation travelogue are given the principles and methods of the screen narration are described. The images of the present can be combined with images of memories, and a real journey with a mental one in the structure of the animated films in the genre of travelogue. The films contain both the linear, chronological character of the narration, and the labyrinth, collage type of organization of the material.
This generates a stylistic heterogeneity of the image and the displayed material. As a result, this causes a blurring of the genre boundaries and causing the genre polymorphism of the animated travelogue. Thus, syntheticity is its main feature. The animated travelogue is characterized by an underlined subjective presentation, the author’s selection of images and facts, an arbitrary sequence of their presentation. The films emphasize on the narrative and visual dynamism.
