This document  introduces the outcomes of the first Cansiglio forest study retreat on the Belt and Road Initiative and Socio-Ecology, held in Vallorch (Italy) between September 16 and 18, 2019.

The retreat was funded and organized by the Marco Polo Centre (MaP) for Global Europe-Asia Connections, hosted by the Department of Asian and North African Studies at Ca' Foscari University Venice.
