Analysis of population dynamics in species with continuous recruitment and unobservable age structure

An analysis of the literature concerning the methods for the estimation of birth and death rates for population with continuous recruitment and unobservable age structure is presented from a critical point of view.
Some new ideas and mathematical formulations are introduced.
Finally an evaluation of possible approximations based on an extension of the classical mathematical demography is presented and discussed.
