"Garbage Archaeology" in Carnuntum. Erste Überlegungen zu Tierknochen und deren Rolle als Schlüssel zur Rekonstruktion menschlichen Handelns
Description
This working paper provides a first glimpse into current and future planned archaeozoological investigations in the Roman site of Petronell/Carnuntum (Lower Austria), which are carried out as part of a master's thesis at the Department of Classical Archeology at the University of Vienna. Selected samples of animal remains from the building unit "Haus 2" in the Roman civilian city of Carnuntum are analyzed and evaluated. As a preliminary result, the paper gives first insights into the possibilities of gathering new knowledge through analyzing ancient bone material with regard to deposition processes. Particular attention is paid to the reconstruction of possible economic production processes.
