Description

To effectively and cheaply remove pollutants, research is directed towards the use of agricultural wastes as remediation materials. This work is about the analysis of the physical and chemical parameters of activated charcoal from the cocoa shell. The biological material used is composed of a cocoa shell reduced to powder by a grinder of type Retsch SK 100. The three biomass sizes studied were obtained from a Retsch sieve with a diameter of 1 mm, 0.5 mm and 0.2 mm. Pyrolysis was performed at 400?C and 600?C in a NABATHERM 30-3000?C muffle furnace, after 10% impregnation at H3PO4. The results analysis shows activation yields greater than 70%. The rate of ash is between 1.6% and 7.8% at 400?C and between 13.6% and 15.8% at 600?C. Whatever the size, the iodine index at 400?c is higher than that of 600?c. The most important value of methylene blue index (609.53 mg/g) was obtained with coal of size between 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm at 600?C. All in all, these coals show good porosity. This will their use as environmental remediation materials.
