Authors/Creators

  • 1. CONICET. IEALC, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina

Description

In this article the author tries to describe and explain the genesis and historical conformation of sociology as an academic discipline in Argentina from its recognition and institutional consolidation in the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). The initial influences it received from American structural-functionalism, but also the antagonistic influence of American critical sociology. His analysis focuses on the central role occupied by sociologist Gino Germani and the whole series of disputes, discussions and debates that originated around his interpretation of the discipline, mainly in polemics with the exponents of Latin American Marxism in its different currents and tendencies.
