Description
The article provides a definition of “social pedagogy” and traces its separation as an autonomous discipline in Poland in 1964. R. Wroczynski’s “Sociálna pedagogika” (“Social Pedagogy”) published in 1966 was the first guidebook to include a section on “Problems of social pedagogy”. The author treated in it the general concept and scope of social pedagogy as well as systems, approaches and objectives of social pedagogy in Poland. In 1970-ies social pedagogy became an autonomous both scientific and educational discipline. It became a point at issue at scientific conferences, seminars and found coverage in numerous publications. In 1973 social pedagogy was included in the teacher training curriculum (Licentiate and Master Degrees) and was granted the status of an academic discipline in many universities. In 1990-ies the specialization in “Social pedagogy” was certified. Nowadays there are many successful research centers at universities and other educational establishments engaging in research in the field of care provision and teacher preparation.
