CAHİLİYE DÖNEMİ VE İSLAM'IN İLK YILLARINDA OKUMA-YAZMA FAALİYETLERİ

ÖZET

Bu makalede önce İslam öncesi Cahiliye döneminde okur-yazarlık ve okuma yazma faaliyetlerine temas edilmektedir. Bu dönem aslında zannedildiği gibi okuma- yazmanın çok az sayıda kişiyle sınırlandığı bir dönem değildir. Ancak yazıya duyulan ihtiyacın azlığı da kabul edilmelidir. Ayrıca yazı, sadece ezbere yardımcı olması için hatırlatıcı mahiyetteki notlar konumundadır.

Hz. Peygamber okuma-yazmayı yaygınlaştırmıştır. Öyle ki, çok kısa sürede okur-yazar oranında büyük bir patlama olmuştur. İlkel yazı malzemesi, bu okuma- yazma iştiyakına sınır getirememiştir. Resulullah okuma-yazmayı teşvik ettiği gibi, birçok alanda da yazı faaliyeti oluşmuştur. Bu durum çok sayıda katip ve katiplik kurumunu ortaya çıkmasına yol açmıştır. Bu faaliyetlerin en önemlisi Kur’ân’ın yazıya geçirilmesidir. Ayrıca hadisler, antlaşma metinleri, her türlü mektup, emânnâme, ıktânâme, alışveriş evrakları, talimatnâmeler, vasiyetnâme vb. metinler ve vesikaların yazımı da bu faaliyetler arasındadır.

ABSTRACT

The Activities of Literacy in the Pre-Islam (Jahiliya) and Early Islam

This paper inspects the activities of literacy in the period of Jahiliya at first. In

this period, contrary to the common view, the number of illiterate people virtually wasn’t so high. However it must be overlooked that the needing to literacy is too little. Besides the writing only is for helping to memorize.

The Prophet Muhammad makes the literacy widespread a short time. So that the proportion of literates has increased in such a period. The primitive writing material has not limited the desire of literacy of people. The Prophet Muhammad has encouraged the literacy and made the document written in many fields. This case has caused clerkship foundation and so many clerks to appear. The most important of these writing activities is writing of Quran. The writing of Hadith, document of pacts, all kinds of letters, documents of shopping, regulations book, testaments, letters of immunity, and letters of fief, etc. are among these write activities.
