Description

The 40-year mature acreage is located in the Northern Delta Depobelt of the Tertiary Niger delta basin. Most of the easy-to-define structural play types and prospects have been tested. In order to optimize the opportunity and existing production facilities, new plays and deep exploration targets were defined. The application of sequence and seismic stratigraphy principles with biostratigraphic data, resulted in well-defined Lowstand (LST), Transgressive (TST) and Highstand (HST) packages, the related 40.1mya, 42.7mya, 44.4mya and 48mya Sequence Boundaries (SB) and their Environments of Deposition (EOD). Narrow- and wide-window seismic attribute extractions provided some geological insights to the deltaic to outer neritic environments, with fluvial to slope reservoir developments. Rivers Ossiomo and Jamieson, and their precursors remained the major sediment fairways through time, with their imprints noted in the dated 48 – 40.1mya stratigraphic intervals of deltaic system which prograded southwards. Five major prospects and six leads were identified, risked and ranked in the Study. A prospect with combination trap component in a deltaic setting, was drilled and tested as an Oil and Gas discovery with current production of 2200 BOPD (Barrels of Oil per Day) and 23MMscfd (Million
standard cubic feet per day). The nearest producing field is about 3-5km away.
