Description
The rapid development of social media and communication technology has transformed the practice of Islamic da'wah in the digital era. Digital platforms provide new opportunities for Islamic preachers and organizations to disseminate religious knowledge to wider and more diverse audiences beyond geographical and temporal boundaries. This study examines the role of social media and communication technology in optimizing Islamic da'wah by discussing the concept of Islamic preaching in the digital era, the role of social media and communication technology, effective digital da'wah strategies, the positive and negative impacts of social media, the ethics and responsibilities of digital preachers, examples of digital preaching in Indonesia, and the challenges and opportunities associated with digital da'wah. The study employs a qualitative literature-based approach by examining relevant academic discussions and literature concerning Islamic da'wah, digital communication, social media, and contemporary preaching practices. The findings indicate that digital platforms can enhance the accessibility, reach, interactivity, creativity, and flexibility of Islamic preaching. YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, podcasts, websites, livestreams, and digital applications provide diverse channels through which Islamic messages can be communicated to contemporary audiences, particularly younger generations. However, digital da'wah also faces challenges, including misinformation, oversimplification of religious knowledge, information overload, polarization, competition for audience attention, and superficial digital engagement. Therefore, effective digital da'wah requires more than technological adoption. It requires accurate religious knowledge, appropriate communication strategies, digital literacy, creativity, ethical responsibility, reliable sources, and respectful interaction. The study concludes that the optimization of social media and communication technology should focus on integrating technological innovation with Islamic principles and responsible communication practices. When appropriately managed, digital platforms can complement conventional forms of da'wah and contribute to accessible, credible, and meaningful Islamic education in contemporary society.
