Make it Healthy: Exploring health inequalities in Europe [Workshop, Presentation]

This workshop, "Make it Healthy: Exploring Health Inequalities in Europe" (5 May 2026), organised as part of the Infra4NextGen project, examines the determinants, patterns, and policy implications of health inequalities among young people across Europe. Bringing together academic experts and policy specialists, the event integrates theoretical frameworks – particularly the Social Determinants of Health – with empirical evidence from major European research infrastructures, including the European Social Survey, European Values Study, Generations and Gender Survey, and the CROss-National Online Survey.

The workshop highlights persistent cross-national and socioeconomic disparities in health outcomes, including self-rated health, mental health, loneliness, healthcare access, and housing conditions. While most young Europeans report good health, a significant minority experience poor physical or mental wellbeing, with inequalities closely linked to education, social support, and living conditions. New data from the CRONOS-3 panel provide insights into emerging challenges such as unmet healthcare needs, particularly among young women and urban populations.

In addition, the workshop presents policy-oriented perspectives from the Joint Research Centre, focusing on evidence-based approaches to addressing non-communicable diseases and cancer inequalities through initiatives such as the Knowledge Centre on Cancer and the European Cancer Inequalities Registry.

By combining data exploration, methodological guidance, and hands-on group work, the session equips participants with tools to formulate and investigate research questions using harmonised cross-national datasets. The workshop advances data-driven research and policy development to reduce health inequalities and improve well-being among younger generations in Europe.
