Description

The article reviews the history of the study, perspectives and research directions of onomastic space of Ukrainian incantations, which today is the least studied among other genres of folk literature. Lack of modern linguistics comprehensive studies on the structural and semantic and functional characteristics, origin, historical and etymological analysis of proper names, texts used in Ukrainian incantations testifies that this problem has not been solved. The goal is to find out the core aspects of this problem, necessary for its coverage on the basis of the texts of Ukrainian incantations. It was found that researchers began to pay attention to this problem from the late XIX century while studying some onyms which were typical for East Slavic charm tradition. The Soviet period is characterized by the absence of specific studies on any of linguistic phenomena of popular culture and onomasticon of Ukrainian incantations in particular. In the late XX century — early XXI century the studies in this direction were significantly activated. But onomasticon of Ukrainian charm texts remains poorly known. We believe that a comprehensive study of onyms used in Ukrainian charms, can be accomplished primarily by the cross-cultural analysis method. Thus taking into consideration that the proper name — is a pragmatically motivated symbolic microtext, a special cultural code. The use of different aspects of the study of onyms in incantations is important for the profound understanding of their functioning in the mythological and folklore texts and the specific structure of Ukrainian magical texts; it will help to understand better the features of origin, semantics and pragmatics of names as the phenomena of Ukrainian folk culture.
