Abstract: Background: From feminist point of view sport has been sexist institution. Critical analysis of media coverage also showed that media reinforce the hegemonic nature of sport. Despite the women empowerment in sport they are still trivialized and marginalized in images and descriptions. Material and methods: Therefore the aim of the study was analysis of newspaper coverage of two polish exellent sportwomen: A. Radwańska and J. Kowalczyk. Gazeta Wyborcza (GW) was choosen because it is the most opinion-forming newspaper in Poland and that is why, it is a good site for examining the social constructing of gender. Content analysis was used to examine articles. Results: Although the sexist comments were found, gennerally the results showed that the newspaper coverage of women’s sport is more ambiguous. Conclusions: We conclude that GW is not reproducing monolithic view of sportwomen as inferior to men.
