BIO4AFRICA_Characterization of biomass types_Dataset1_240225_v1

This dataset provides an overview of the characterisation of the samples received from the various pilot sites (Ghana, Senegal and Cote d'Ivoire). The characterisations were carried out using analytical methods acceptable by European standards (generally standard NREL procedures). All analyses were carried out in duplicates or triplicates where required and results were considered acceptable when the standard deviation was less than 10%.

The measured properties included:

• Heating value
• Biochemical composition (cellulose, hemicellulose sugars, lignin, extractives, lipids,

proteins, silica)

• Proximate analysis (moisture, fix carbon, volatile matter, ash content)
• Elemental analysis (C, H, O, Al, As, B, Ca, Cd, Cl, Cr, Cu, F, Fe, Hg, Mg, Mn, K, N, Na, Ni, P, Pb, S, Sb, Se, Si, Sn, Te, Ti, Tl, V, Zn)
• Ethanol and water extractives
• Ash melting behaviour
• Composition of uronic acids
