Vanuatu Basic Vocabulary List
Description
The Vanuatu Basic Vocabulary List was developed by and for linguists working on the Vanuatu Languages and Lifeways Project at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History. It is used as a tool for eliciting basic vocabulary data of Vanuatu languages, and therefore both English and Bislama prompts are provided. The list of 215 concepts is based entirely on the Austronesian Basic Vocabulary Database (Greenhill et al 2008), with only minor additions in the pronominal domain that account for both inclusivity and exclusivity, as well as dual and plural forms.
