Multiple effects of capybaras on vegetation suggest impending impacts of jaguar reintroduction

This dataset contains data on the effects of capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) herbivory on vegetation in Iberá National Park, Argentina, specifically in the context of a trophic rewilding project. The study focuses on understanding how capybara grazing influences vegetation height, biomass, diversity, and species composition, with a focus on predicting potential indirect effects of jaguar (Panthera onca) reintroduction on plant communities. Data were collected from 10 paired 3 m x 3 m herbivore exclosures and control plots over four years (2017-2021) in the San Alonso area, a key site for jaguar reintroduction.
