Abstract (English)
In 2000, the artists Andreas Paeslack and Jens Herrmann added an erratic boulder with the inscription ‘Petrified Humanity’ to the Moritzburg memorial stone to the memory of Käthe Kollwitz. The updating of the memorial sparked controversy, which ultimately led to the removal of the addition. The interview with contemporary witnesses reconstructs the events of the time and examines the motivations of the authors involved. It serves as the basis for a text in the anthology Identität und. Constructions, Conflicts, Contexts (Schwabe Verlag, to be published in 2025).
