REVIEW OF BIOMATERIAL

Biomaterials are in the form of implants like sutur es,bone plates,joint replacementsas well asmedica l devices like pacemakers,artificial hearts,blood tubes are wide ly used to replace and/or restore the function of t raumatized or degenerated tissues or organs,and thus improve the quality of life of the patients. The first and for emost requirement for the choice of biomaterial is its acceptability by the human body. A biomaterial used for implant s hould possess some important properties in order to long-term usa ge in the body without reaction. The most common cl asses of biomaterials used as biomedical material like metal s,Polymers,ceramics and composites. These four cl asses are used singly and in combination to form most of the implantation devices available today. This review w ill be of value to researchers who are interested in the stat e of the art of biomaterial evaluation and selectio n of biomaterials.
