3D Tomographic P- and S-wave velocity models for Irpinia Area from De Landro et al. 2022

Description

3D P- and S-wave tomographic models obtained in the work De Landro et al (2022).

The files are organized as X,Y,Z,Vp or Vs. The X and Y coordinates are in UTM, zone 33. The Z is in m and the velocities are in km/s.

We considered the ISNet catalogue from August 2005 to October 2016. It consists of 1948 low magnitude (0.5 < ML < 3.2) events. For these earthquakes, we used accurate pickings manually revised by the University of Naples Federico II (UNINA) and by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) that manage ISNET and the Italian seismic surveillance network, respectively. To obtain the initial event locations, we localized the events using the NLLoc code and the 1D velocity model retrieved for the IFS crustal volume by Matrullo et al. 2014. Then, we performed a selection based on the quality of locations that mainly depends on the stations/event layout and the noise level at the stations. A total of 1425 events finally provided 12,598 P picks and 5834 S picks. Using these data, we performed a first arrival time tomographic inversion using an iterative, linearized method and a multiscale approach. The final parameterization is 6 × 6 × 3 km3.
