Description
Abstract : Preliminary studies towards a checklist of vascular plants in the federal state
of Salzburg, part 3: The genus Oenothera / evening-primroses (Onagraceae)
The genus Oenothera originates from the temperate to subtropical zones of North and South America.
Several taxa could establish themselves as neophytes in Europe and, moreover, create new taxa
by hybridisation. There are 188 taxa known worldwide, of which 17 are present in the federal state of
Salzburg: Oenothera angustissima, Oe. biennis (s. str.), Oe. cambrica, Oe. canovirens, Oe. casimiri,
Oe. compacta, Oe. deflexa, Oe. fallax, Oe. fruticosa, Oe. glazioviana, Oe. paradoxa, Oe. perangusta,
Oe. punctulata, Oe. pycnocarpa (s. str.), Oe. rubricaulis, Oe. royfraseri and Oe. victorinii.
Hereof Oe. cambrica, Oe. paradoxa and Oe. perangusta are recorded the first time in Austria and
Oe. rubricaulis in the federal state of Salzburg. In this publication, these taxa are briefly presented,
their history of spreading is shown and their current distribution in Salzburg is illustrated by distribution
maps. Features for identification and for delimitation from similar taxa are also mentioned
in this publication.
