Description

This article is a first overview of the species of the genus Taraxacum, which, so far, have been
found in the federal state of Salzburg, Austria. In addition to new, previously unpublished records,
largely based on collections in private herbaria of the two authors, the species hitherto mentioned
in older botanical literature are included and cited. So far, the following nine sections have been recorded
(number of species in brackets): sectt. Alpestria (8), Alpina (9), Cucullata (2), Erythrosperma
(1; reconfirmed), Fontana (3), Hamata (1; determination still in progress – new for Salzburg),
Pachera (1), Palustria (8) and Taraxacum (14). New for Salzburg are the following eleven species:
Taraxacum ancoriferum, T. fontanicola, T. madidum, T. martellense, T. obitsiense, T. ooststroomii,
T. plumbeum, T. pseudofontanum, T. rhaeticum, T. saasense and T. vindobonense. We would like
to draw future attention to studying sectt. Arctica, Borealia and Celtica, which also may occur in
Salzburg, but have not yet been discovered. The record of T. balticiforme for Salzburg is regarded as
doubtful from today’s point of view. Moreover T. nigrescens and T. nigricans have been reported in
error from the federal state of Salzburg in old literature.
