Stika spruce code and data

Description

This data and code is associated with the manuscript “Identification of volatile organic compounds emitted by Sitka spruce and determination of their emission pathways and fluxes”, submitted to EGU Biogeosciecnes.

This data describes the BVOC emissions from Sitka spruce trees, measured with a time-of-flight chemical ionisation mass spectrometer. The trees were housed in a plant growth chamber under controlled temperature and photosynthetic photon flux density conditions. Three different measurement cycles were applied to the plant growth chamber for approximately one week each, during November and December 2021, at the Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork, Ireland.

The emission pathways for each BVOC (pooled, biosynthetic or both) were determined and used to calculate emission fluxes at standardised conditions. An extrapolation procedure was applied to estimate the total BVOC flux from all Sitka spruce plantations in Ireland.
