Description
The dataset contains the URLs of 10000 publicly available news articles from the BBC's UK media ecosystem. Each article is categorised by its news angle according to a closed set of 36 tags. Examples of tags are TRAGEDY, ELITESCANDAL, and NOSTALGIA.
BBC News Labs commisioned the analysis from Creative Semiotics in 2021, working with them to train the tagging team and to manage the quality of the resulting tags. Each article in the dataset has been tagged by three independent teams of three members.
The dataset consists of two files:
- article_tags.csv contains the article URLs along with the tags and comments from the three teams.
- tag_descriptions.csv provides a general and a detailed description for each tag, along with story examples.
