Craw Stane, Rhynie, Aberdeenshire
Description
The Class 1 Pictish Symbol Stone known as the Craw Stane is a rectangular block of grey granite, measuring 0.9m in breadth and 0.4m wide and 1.85m in height set in a concrete base. Its SW face bears the incised figure of a fish and, immediately below it, a Pictish beast. The symbols are grooved, pecked and reasonably clear. Dates from 6th century. A similar mythical beast is carved on Rhynie No 8 stone nearby see https://skfb.ly/op6Zy .
