Description

This release contains the Chrono-MUSCAL three-dimensional seismic basin model for the Los Angeles Basin in NetCDF format. The model was developed by integrating a USGS chronostratigraphic framework (Ponti and Martin, 2021) with seismic velocity parameterizations derived from the MUSCAL Community Velocity Model. The dataset includes gridded shear-wave velocity (Vs), compressional-wave velocity (Vp), and density (ρ) fields suitable for earthquake ground-motion simulation and seismic basin modeling applications. The Los Angeles Basin was selected as a proof-of-concept study area because of the availability of detailed geological constraints, existing community velocity models, and observational datasets for model evaluation.
