SenSASP: A Unified, Multi-Layer Database of Senescence and SASP Genes

Authors/Creators

Description

Research on cellular senescence and the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) draws on several independently curated gene resources, making cross-resource integration error-prone. This dataset unifies four widely used seed resources—CellAge, GenAge, the SenMayo signature, and the Reactome Cellular Senescence pathway—onto a single canonical Ensembl identifier space.

Every gene is enriched with three annotation layers:
1. Cross-species conservation (Mus musculus and Danio rerio orthologs via Ensembl BioMart)
2. Tissue and cell-type expression (GTEx v8 median TPM across 54 tissues & Human Protein Atlas)
3. High-confidence protein–protein interactions (STRING v12 combined score ≥ 700)

Unification collapsed 1,460 summed source entries into 1,250 unique genes (210 redundant entries removed, 14.4%), while preserving full source provenance.

Included Files:
`senescence_sasp_database.json`: Complete unified database in JSON format.
`senescence_sasp_database.csv`: Tabular version of the unified dataset.
`senescence_db_pipeline.zip`: Fully scripted, one-command-reproducible pipeline to regenerate the database end-to-end from public APIs.
