Model-based Architectural Decision Records with Schema, Grammar, and Examples

This dataset accompanies the paper "Model-based Architectural Decision Recording in Cyber-physical Software Systems".

In this dataset, the following artefacts are contained:

• json-schema.zip: This archive file contains the conceptual meta-model presented in the paper as a JSON schema file. It further includes four complete example decision records (3 of which are partially presented in the paper) as instantiations of the meta-model in YAML and JSON formats conforming to the JSON schema. Note that in these examples, pointers among elements in the files are encoded as strings, requiring additional logic when deserializing into object structures.
• yaml-dsl.zip: This archive file contains the conceptual meta-model presented in the paper as YAML-based grammar (domain-specific language) definition to be used with the textX meta-language (https://textx.github.io/textX/). It further includes four complete example decision records and the three listing examples from the paper as instantiations of the meta-model in YAML conforming to this grammar. Note that in these examples, pointers are defined in the grammar and can be used to directly point to other model elements.
• prompt.txt and SKILL.md: The prompt and skill we have used with an LLM (Claude Sonnet 5), providing the YAML-based decision example files from file yaml-dsl.zip as input, to automtaically translate the model-based decision records into Nygard ADRs and Y Statements.
• nygard-adrs.zip: Architectural decision records following the Nygard template as markdown documents that were generated by the LLM from the provided model-based decision examples in YAML.
• y-statements.zip: Architectural decision records following the Y Statement template as markdown documents that were generated by the LLM from the provided model-based decision examples in YAML.
