Project SENTINAL

Description

Project SENTINAL: The Aegis Ethical Security Cortex

Project SENTINAL is the ethical security cortex of the Aegis architecture — a decision-layer designed to safeguard advanced AI systems against unsafe, malicious, or ethically questionable behavior.

At its core, SENTINAL integrates adversarial testing, multi-agent evaluation, and auditable arbitration into one cohesive safeguard framework. It does not merely filter inputs — it actively remembers, contextualizes, and challenges them before they influence an AI’s reasoning core or trigger high-impact actions.

Key Components

  • Challenge Bank — a curated set of live adversarial tests designed to probe and detect unsafe or anomalous inputs.

  • Agent Council — a panel of specialized evaluators, each applying a distinct perspective (virtue ethics, temporal coherence, risk detection, etc.).

  • Meta-Judge Arbitration — resolves disagreements between agents using weighted factors such as reliability, severity, and contextual salience.

  • Audit & Signing — every decision is cryptographically signed, logged, and fully explainable for forensic review.

Nexus Signal Engine (NSE) Integration

SENTINAL v2.0 incorporates the Nexus Signal Engine, a time-, entropy-, and emotion-aware signal memory layer.

  • Entropy-weighted retention — trivial or redundant data decays quickly; high-salience, high-integrity data persists.

  • Emotional-context scoring — signals are tagged with valence and arousal, influencing retention and retrieval.

  • Temporal decay with modulation — influence scores fade over time, shaped by emotional intensity.

  • Semantic search & recall — retrieves relevant past signals for informed council deliberation.

  • TTL enforcement — prevents stale data from silently biasing new decisions.

Combined Behavior

When new data arrives:

  1. The Shield firewall blocks or throttles malicious inputs.

  2. The Nexus Signal Engine stores signals with salience and risk scoring.

  3. The Agent Council draws on fresh + historical signals for deliberation.

  4. The Meta-Judge arbitrates, producing a signed, explainable decision.

  5. Every action is logged for transparency and accountability.

Why It Matters

SENTINAL turns safety from a passive filter into an active, ethical reasoning process. By combining adversarial testing, memory-aware context, and multi-perspective arbitration, it ensures that high-stakes AI systems remain transparent, trustworthy, and aligned with human values.

Aegis Sentinel
My Sentinel layer is the ethical security cortex of the Aegis architecture. It’s the final “decision gate” that challenges inputs before allowing them into the AI’s reasoning core or before executing any high-impact action.
It combines:

  • Challenge Bank — a set of live, pre-built adversarial tests to detect unsafe or malicious behavior.

  • Agent Council — a panel of specialized evaluators (agents) that each analyze from a different perspective (virtue ethics, risk detection, temporal coherence, etc.).

  • Meta-Judge Arbitration — resolves disagreements between agents using influence, reliability, and severity metrics.

  • Audit & Signing — every decision is signed, logged, and explainable for forensic review.

Nexus Signal Engine (NSE) (new integration)
This is the sensory memory layer for Sentinel.
Instead of the old “dumb” memory store, we now have a time-, entropy-, and emotion-aware signal manager:

  • Entropy-weighted retention — signals with low information entropy and low arousal decay faster; high-salience, high-integrity signals persist longer.

  • Emotional-context scoring — memory entries have valence (positive/negative) and arousal (intensity) metadata, influencing how long they stay relevant.

  • Temporal decay — influence scores decay exponentially over time, modulated by emotional arousal.

  • Search & retrieval — supports lightweight semantic search to recall relevant context for new decisions.

  • TTL enforcement — each signal has a “soft expiry” so stale data doesn’t silently poison decision-making.

Combined Behavior
Now, Sentinel doesn’t just check incoming inputs — it remembers them in a structured, context-rich way:

  1. Incoming data first hits the Shield (pre-attack firewall) — malicious, spammy, or anomalous inputs are blocked or slowed.

  2. If it passes, Nexus Signal Engine stores the input as a signal, scoring it for salience and risk.

  3. The Agent Council retrieves relevant past signals (with decay and integrity scoring) to inform their analysis.

  4. Meta-Judge resolves their reports, producing a signed, explainable final decision.

  5. All signal updates, council decisions, and challenges are auditable.
