It is distinguished by the bronze statue popularly known as "the little horse", erected in honor of the hero of Independence José María Morelos y Pavón, the "Servant of the Nation". In its rectangular esplanade covered with quarry and surrounded by landscaped spaces, the equestrian monument stands out on a pedestal adorned with allegories representing freedom and the country, and two reliefs alluding to the battle of Cuautla and the Constitution of Apatzingán. The statue was made by the Italian sculptor José Inghillieri, inaugurated in 1913.
