Description
FIGURE 6. Ontogenetic integration of morphological data and molecular phylogeny implying a common ancestral ontogenetic cycle of the group of tergipedid-like families with veliger larva, earlier postlarval stages with oral veil and 1-2 cerata per side and adult stage with numerous cerata (more than six anterior ceratal rows), notal edge and cleioproctic/ pleuroproctic anus. Evolutionary derived disparate adult stages of the type species of the type genera of the families Trinchesiidae, Fionidae, Tergipedidae, Cuthonidae, Cuthonellidae, Calmidae and Eubranchidae respectively: A. Trinchesia caerulea (Montagu, 1804). B. Fiona pinnata (Eschscholtz, 1831). C. Tergipes tergipes (Forsskål in Niebuhr, 1775). D. Cuthona nana (Alder & Hancock, 1842). E. Cuthonella abyssicola Bergh, 1884. F. Calma glaucoides (Alder & Hancock, 1854). G. Eubranchus tricolor Forbes, 1838. I. Dorsal view. II. Ventral view, anterior part. III Radula, SEM. IV. Pharynx, jaws and central nervous system, lateral view. V. Male part of reproductive system. Abbreviations: LRE, lateral radular extension; LT, lateral teeth; ot, oral tentacle; p, penis; pg, "penial" (supplementary) gland; pr, prostate, vd, vas deferens. Scale bars: AIII—30 µm, BIII—50 µm, CIII, DIII—20µm, EIII—100 µm, GIII—100 µm, FIII—10 µm. Molecular phylogeny from Cella et al. (2016), graphically modified. All images by T.A. Korshunova and A.V. Martynov, except FI – by Bjørnar Nygård.
