Magnetic Susceptibility - Kappabridge (KAPPA)

This report provides anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) and bulk susceptibility data. Magnetic susceptibility measurements are made on discrete samples using an Agico KLY4 Kappabridge susceptibility meter. Data are collected using the Agico Sufar.exe program or the AMSspin program.

Data calculation methods differ depending on the software package used.

Data File format

    Exp: expedition number
    Site: site number
    Hole: hole number
    Core: core number
    Type: type indicates the coring tool used to recover the core (typical types are F, H, R, X).
    Sect: section number
    A/W: archive (A) or working (W) section half.
    Top offset (cm): position of the observation made, measured relative to the top of a section half.
    Top depth CSF-A (m): location of the observation expressed relative to the top of a hole.
    Top depth [other] (m): location of the upper edge of the sample expressed relative to the top of the hole. The location is presented in a scale selected by the science party or the report user.
    Sample vol (cm^3): volume of the specimen measured as entered by user (cm^3).
    Measurement field (A/m): the set field that the specimen was measured in.
    Holder susceptibility (SI): susceptibility of the holder.
    Mean susceptibility (SI): average of the absolute values of the principal susceptibilities, (K1 + K2 + K3) / 3.
    Bulk susceptibility (SI): total susceptibility of a specimen corrected for specimen volume.
    Kmax susceptibility (SI): K1, the susceptibility of the maximum axis.
    Kint susceptibility (SI): K2, the susceptibility of the intermediate axis.
    Kmin susceptibility (SI): K3, the susceptibility of the minimum axis.
    Kmax dec (deg): declination of the maximum (K1) principal susceptibility.
    Kmax inc (deg): inclination of the maximum (K1) principal susceptibility.
    Kint dec (deg): declination of the intermediate (K2) principal susceptibility.
    Kint inc (deg): inclination of the intermediate (K2) principal susceptibility.
    Kmin dec (deg): declination of the minimum (K3) principal susceptibility.
    Kmin inc (deg): inclination of the minimum (K3) principal susceptibility.
    Raw filename: Link to ASMAN file for the original .asc, .ky4, or .csv data file.
    Configuration filename: File name of binary (.ran) file for use with the AGICO SUFAR program. File is only available with AMS measurements.
    Instrument: the abbreviation for the instrument used to measure discrete specimen magnetic susceptibility (KLY-4S).
    Timestamp (UTC): time file was uploaded, which is typically a few minutes to hours after data were acquired.
    Text ID: automatically generated unique database identifier for a sample, visible on printed labels.
    Test No: Unique number associated with the instrument measurement steps that produced these data.
    Sample comments: observations recorded about the sample itself.
    Test comments: observations about a measurement or the measurement process; some measurement observations may be under Result comments.
    Result comments: observations about a measurement or the measurement process; some measurement observations may be under Test comments.
